Position Summary:
Operates sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in a wastewater (sewage) treatment plant to control the flow and processing of sewage. Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of sewage. Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements. Calculates and adjusts chemical feed rates and respectively measures and prepares chemicals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitors control panels and adjusts valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate the flow of sewage.
- Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings and test results to determine load requirements.
- Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control the flow of raw sewage through filtering, settling, aeration, and sludge digestion processes.
- Maintains log of operations and records meter and gauge readings.
- Collects sewage samples and conducts laboratory tests.
- Operates and maintains power-generating equipment to provide electricity for the plant.
- Calculates and adjusts chemical feed rates and respectively measures and prepares chemicals.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School education or equivalent
- Grade B or C Wastewater Operator Certification, with the ability to obtain the next Grade Wastewater Operator Certification within 12 months of the hire date.
- A current and valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles, climb stairs, and lift and carry samples.
- Ability to work overtime and on-call.
