Purpose of the Job

The Area Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of water and wastewater operations within an assigned service area. This role supervises operational staff, coordinates maintenance activities, monitors system performance, and ensures regulatory compliance. The Area Supervisor plays a critical role in maximizing system reliability, maintaining customer satisfaction, supporting safe operations, and driving operational excellence across water and wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection systems

What You'll Do

  • Lead and supervise day-to-day water and wastewater operations, including treatment, distribution, and collection systems.
  • Oversee, monitor, adjust, and control system processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.
  • Evaluate system performance against safety, environmental, efficiency, and availability goals, identifying opportunities for optimization and corrective action.
  • Manage and participate in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop operational teams while supporting recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee growth.
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs, operational procedures, emergency response plans, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, hazard assessments, and safety evaluations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Monitor equipment and utility systems through on-site inspections and SCADA/Apogee systems to ensure reliable operation and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for customers, contractors, regulators, and internal stakeholders, resolving issues and supporting capital projects.
  • Respond to operational emergencies and support emergency response activities as needed.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, inventory control, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Travel frequently between assigned operational areas to support teams and system needs.

What You'll Bring

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Valid driver's license. 
  • Active state water and/or wastewater certification relevant to the assigned area.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive hands-on experience in water and wastewater operations, with strong knowledge of industry regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional state water and/or wastewater certifications.

  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater system operations. 
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, industry best practices, and regulatory compliance requirements. 
  • Experience working with SCADA, Apogee, or similar plant operating systems. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to serve as a subject matter expert and provide operational guidance.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, coach, and direct technical and operational teams
