Overview

Join our team at Texas Water Utilities, a leading water utility dedicated to providing excellent service to our community. The Field Foreman – Leaks supervises leak crew that is engaged in the replacement of water mains in distribution system(s) and sewer mains in collection system(s) in an assigned area, and performing duties for the installation of new or the replacement of existing water and sewer mains; review work plans with resident engineer and area manager to assess scope of project and to plan and schedule work operations.

 Essential Functions Statement(s)

Leak Detection: Responsible for water leak detection, pinpointing leaks using high and low frequency listening devices, and taking corrective action to replace water leaks. Additionally, will create work orders, generate reports, and interpret data related to distribution systems.

Construction Activities: Ensures that work site and crew is equipped with required safety equipment and that required safety barricades and notices are appropriately set-up at work site. Monitors work in progress to ensure work performed (i.e., excavation, shoring of trenches, laying and installation of pipe, and connections to new water main) is in compliance with operating procedures and departmental, federal, and state safety standards. Prepares work sites, ensuring area residents are notified of water shut-downs and that required permits are obtained and underground utilities are properly marked prior to the start of excavation. Coordinates the delivery of required equipment and materials to work sites. Prepares and signs off on various manual and computerized reports relating to work operations including productivity, materials used, work orders completed, timesheets, loads on trucks and materials used. Monitors work performance, responds to performance issues and initiates disciplinary actions as required. Assists leak crew with operation of light to heavy equipment: shovels for hand excavation to create access to waste and wastewater lines, jackhammer and/or chop saws to provide access through rock and/or concrete, mini-excavators, and backhoes loader at the construction site to move, install, and remove various bulk materials. Assists with clean up of mud and debris produced by construction activities, repairs landscaping, and other ancillary construction activities such as water and wastewater line repairs and responds to customer issues related to construction sites.

Environmental, Health, and Safety 

Safety: Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and adherence to safety procedures in performing all assignments. Attends offsite and company safety classes and meetings as scheduled, ensures safety of self and others, and always puts personnel safety ahead of getting the job done. Understands and works in conformance with safe operating practices and rules. Constantly on alert for any safety hazards that may cause harm to any employee, customer, or member of the general public. Reporting and/or correcting/safe-guarding any hazard, such as but not limited to defective or damaged equipment, or leaking water at any site. 

Quality Assurance: Ensures that construction related activities are conducted such that they comply with regulations and company policies related to maintain safe drinking water quality.

What You'll Bring

Education:
High School Diploma or GED

Experience:
Requires one year of experience directly related to water and/or wastewater system operations, maintenance, customer service, and experience operating back-hoe and/or track-hoe equipment

TCEQ License: Must possess or have the ability to possess a C water distribution or C wastewater collection within six months of hire. 

Skills: Must possess knowledge of general procedures for installing, maintaining, and replacing water and wastewater services; safety hazards, procedures, and equipment used when working on or near underground utility lines; tools, equipment, materials, and supplies needed for installing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater lines.

Other Requirements

Driver’s License: A Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as determined by the Company’s insurance carrier is desirable.
