Purpose of the Job

This is an entry-level position and is responsible for assisting in planning and completing complex water system improvements as well as other operational and engineering projects that may be assigned. Analyzes, plans, designs, and responsible for the operation of the Company's water facilities. Prepares operational and procedural manuals as required. EIT certificate is required at time of hire or within two years of hire.

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:

  • Responsible for preparing estimates, design layouts, specifications and operating procedures for the installation of transmission mains, distribution mains, services, hydrants, natural gas engines, electric motors, pumps, boosters, chlorinating equipment, storage facilities, treatment facilities and other mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Responsible for preparing various reports and information requests as necessary.  Assists with the update and improvement of the Company's Standard Specifications and Drawings.
  • Responsible for determining the requirements of specific projects and preparing designs to meet those requirements including the requirements of governmental agencies and their design standards.  Responsible for assuring that projects are completed on a timely basis in the most cost effective and safe manner and makes sure that operation instructions are prepared.
  • Visits construction projects on a regular basis to review progress of construction and coordinates with Suburban inspectors and contractors.  Physical inspection of construction in progress will be required to verify work completed prior to approving progress payments.
  • Provides design direction for water and wastewater pipelines ranging in various sizes; wells with capacities to 6,000 gpm and motor sizes to 500 horsepower; steel and concrete reservoirs and other facilities associated with water and wastewater systems including simple buildings, electrical and telemetry systems.  
  • Responsible for assisting in planning a preventive maintenance program and a yearly maintenance schedule during low production periods to maintain top efficiency during the peak periods of water production and wastewater treatment.
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of an effective master plan and/or timely plant improvement and replacement program. 
  • Responsible for preparing hydraulic analysis and water or effluent flow calculations and provides analysis for new and future developments as required.
  • Responsible for writing proposals for contract projects.  Identifies and establishes needs for outside consultants.  Prepares Requests for Proposal and participates in the evaluation and selection of consultants.  Manages consultants to ensure compliance with the project budget and schedule and quality of the final product.
     

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Related Field

Certifications

The ability to obtain an EIT Certification within six months of employment.

This is an entry level position as a graduate engineer. Prior engineering experience as an intern during college years is encouraged but not required.
