Overview

Join a dedicated team that serves as the frontline connection between our customers and the water system. As an entry level Field Services team member, you’ll support accurate meter reading, service connections, and customer issue resolution, all while learning from experienced professionals and gaining hands-on experience in essential field operations. This role is key to ensuring our systems reflect real world conditions and our service meets the highest standards.

Work Location and Schedule

  • Primarily based in West Covina, California
  • Regular business hours: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 5:00pm
  • May require overtime, nights and weekends as needed
  • May require local travel to other locations within our service areas in Southern California

What You'll Do

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:

  • Meter Reading
    • Reads and records accurate meter data using handheld devices.
      Identifies issues such as stopped, unreadable, leaking, or damaged meters and facilities.
      Coordinates with Billing to ensure timely and correct reads; completes re‑reads as assigned.
      Reads analog and AMR meters, performs flow tests, extracts AMR data logs, and updates GPS information.
  • Route Maintenance
    • Identifies hazardous or difficult‑to‑read meters and ensures safe access.
    • Reports needed repairs or replacements for water facilities along the route.
    • Replaces broken meter box tops and boxes as required.
    • Secures or corrects damaged or leaking facilities using appropriate tools and safety equipment.
  • Connections / Reconnections
    • Performs meter shutoffs, turn‑ons, and locks for non‑payment or move‑ins/move‑outs.
    • Records meter reads and enters correct solution codes in the ERP system.
  • Customer Service
    • Communicates professionally with customers and staff, providing clear explanations and solutions.
    • Completes field service requests such as move‑ins/outs, bill inquiries, pressure issues, leaks, no water, facility checks, damaged meters, and door tags.
    • Handles reconnects, disconnects, reseals, illegal hookups, flooding meters, and data log requests.
  • Additional Functions
    • Applies tariffs and General Order 103A.
    • Troubleshoots billing issues and resolves estimated reads.
    • Performs pressure tests and completes service connections and reconnections.

Education and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year working in industrial, manufacturing, or utility environment, including driving for work purposes; no prior experience with Field Services functions required.

Work Environment and Conditions

  • Works outside and may be subjected to adverse working conditions and inclement weather
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to walk long distances, operate a Company passenger vehicle or pickup truck, have adequate vision and hearing to identify hazards in the field and to communicate with others in person or by telephone
  • May require moderate lifting and carrying up 50 pounds
  • Must be able to climb stairs
